READING. Do an internet search for readings,
there are a lot of books on death and dying out there. Also,
consult your pastor or other spiritual teacher, they may have
recommendations. Here are some favorites in my groups:
Falling Upward, by Richard Rohr – a book on spiritual maturity through opening to crisis.
The Grace in Dying – A Message of Hope, Comfort and Spiritual Transformation, by Kathleen Dowling Singh.
Being with Dying: cultivating compassion and fearlessness in the presence of death, by Joan Halifax – This is a good one to use if you start a death meditation group. It includes death meditations at the end of the chapters.
Dying with Confidence, by Anyen Rinpoche – Cultivating friendships with those who will help you with your meditation, and understanding your wishes is an important part of this beautiful and pragmatic book, written by a Tibetan Buddhist. It includes a chapter on Phowa and some discussion on the Bardos.
Living in the Light of Death – On the Art of Being Truly Alive – by Larry Rosenberg
No Death No Fear, Thich Nhat Hanh
Access to Insight, Visuddhimagga. Mindfulness practices and many of the Buddhist death meditations have their origins in the Visuddhimagga. It is a free download, if you're interested. I like it for the death and impermanence meditations.
